Josh Levin looks at security questions at Slate.
Maybe I’m strange, but I usually on net enjoy answering the security questions. Maybe because they bring to mind pleasant memories like a teacher I enjoyed, a childhood pet, or a favorite athlete.
It might be more successful if the security questions brought to mind unpleasant memories that are burned into our memories — “Who was the worst boss you ever had?” “What’s the largest amount of money you have lent out that was never paid back?” “What is the name of the first person to break your heart?” “What part was the most expensve car repair you’ve ever had to account for?” “What teacher gave you your first failing grade?” “Which of your siblings is your parents’ favorite?” “What is the name of the person who got the promotion you were passed over for?”
Of course, we’d end up hating whatever company made us think about these things.
