Followership vs. Discipleship…

It occurs to me that it’s possible that “discipleship” may be a more apt term for what I am describing than “followership.” (and has the advantage of actually being a word).  People would probably be more willing to be considered “disciples” than “followers.”

But I think that’s part of the problem.

Most people who defy their bishops or pastors still consider themselves “disciples,” they believe they are following Jesus as best they can as He speaks in their own conscience.

“Followership” drives home the point that following Jesus doesn’t always mean following our own minds.  It will hurt a little somtimes.  We have to eat our spinach.
